Water For Life

In Week 6 we went on a trip to one of the Christchurch City Council Water Pumping Stations. It used to be the old control room, but now they have a fancy new room somewhere else. While we were there we did some activities that taught us about where Christchurch water comes from. Did you know that it is some of the cleanest city water in the world!! Did you also know that if we use too much water at one time then salt water can end up in our main pipes!

To learn about how much water we use we did some groups activities where we pretended to be families in Christchurch or in other countries that don't have much water at all. It sure was eye opening to realise how much water we waste every day.

We also got to see some cool water pumps, generators and we got to look down into one of the water tanks. It holds 1 million litres of water! And that was just one of the small ones!!

Hopefully we can use the info from this trip and from our home water diaries to help us change the way we use water, so that there is plenty left for generations to come.
